Monaco offers an important number of hotels to the tourists coming from all over the world. Five four star luxe hotels, namely the renowned Hotel de Paris owned be the “Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) with its famous restaurant “Louis XV” managed by the chef Alain Ducasse, a must for the gourmets from all over the world.

The Hotel Hermitage also belongs to the SBM. This magnificent edifice in the “Belle Epoque” style with its glass construction and winter garden was built by Gustave Eiffel and is classified as a historical monument.

The Hotel Metropole Monte Carlo has recently been refurbished by Jacques Garcia. It hosts the restaurant Joël Robuchon Monte Carlo which is run by one of his disciples, Christophe Cussac.

Amongst the luxury hotels figures the Fairmont Hotel, the European flagship of the American hotel chain.

The Méridien Beach Plaza is the only hotel with a private sand beach and its convention centre, the Monte Carlo Sea Club.

The Port Palace Hotel, located in the Port Hercule, offers from its terrace an incomparable view on the Beau Rivage gradient and is one of the most privileged places to follow the Formula One Grand Prix of Monaco.

In another category, the Columbus Hotel located in the quarter of Fontvieille (built on an area taken from the sea), is one of the best hotels in Monaco. It has a superb design and its decoration is hold in a very modern style.

At the frontier of the Principality in France, the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel, a remarkable resort hotel with its rooms offering an exceptional panorama on the so-called “Rocher” – the old town of Monaco.

How to come to Monaco:

By road:
The Principality is about 20 kilometres away from Nice; and the same distance to the Italian border. There are three road connections, the Moyenne Corniche via the Col de Villefranche and the village of Eze, the Basse Corniche on the seaside via Villefranche; Beaulieu, Eze and Cap d’Ail, or the motorway at the entrance of Cap d’Ail.

At the entrance of Monaco follow the signs “Musée Vieille Ville” (museum old town) and put your car in the public car park “Les Pêcheurs” (it is the closest one to the Rock and the Prince’s Palace.

One particular detail: In most of the Monegasque car parks, the first hour is free of charge. Monaco has about 15.000 parking spaces. On the spot, you can also rent a limousine (with or without driver) with the following companies: Calandres, 2M Limousines Service, Diamond’ Limousine, Galaxie Limousine, Limousine Tours Monte Carlo or Monte Carlo Limousine.

By bus:
Take the TAM bus line between Nice and Menton via the Basse Corniche. Time schedule: about every 15 min every day. There is also the line 114 to La Turbie and Monaco and shuttles buses connecting the International Airport of Nice to the Principality (via motorway).

By air:
The fastest mean of transportation between the airport and Monaco us the helicopter. The company Heli Air operates high frequency connections every day in both senses. It only takes 6 minutes. This company also offers panoramic flights over the Principality, the French Riviera and the country-side.

By train:
Take the SNCF connection from Nice to Ventimiglia (Italy). The train station in Monaco is built in the rocks. Upon arrival, there are two exits: Down to the main port, the Port Hercule or towards Monte Carlo and the Casino via the Boulevard Princesse Charlotte.

By ship:
Large cruise ships can now berth in the port. The Port Hercule with its new quay can welcome 200 000 tourists cruising the Mediterranean Sea every year.

With the progress, Monaco has succeeded in developing a contemporary architecture for enlarging its accommodation capacities by conserving the traces of the prestigious past, namely several villas dating from the 19th century and the so-called “Années folles” (30ties), magnificent gardens such as the Exotic Garden, but especially the character of the old town on the Rock, with its picturesque small and shady streets and alleys, which all lead to the Prince’s Palace. There you can visit the private apartments, admire the throne room, the Palatine chapel, the court of honour and follow the change of the guards – the “Carabiniers” in their magnificent traditional uniforms every day at 11.55 am. Another place to visit is the Oceanographic Museum and its aquarium which has an impressive number of rare species and a lagoon with sharks.

In Monaco, the centre of cultural events is the Grimaldi Forum on the Larvotto promenade. This centre of convention hosts the Ballets of Monte Carlo, prestigious exhibitions, international conferences, restaurant and bars, meeting place of the night life, such as the Zebra Square or the Karément. Other places to enjoy the night life are for example the Jimmy’z, the most famous discotheque of Monaco, or the casinos, like the ancient Casino of Monte Carlo, the Sun Casino in the Fairmont Hotel, the Casino in the Café de Paris,or the Palmiers Casino in the Sporting d’été.

If you want to relax and prepare your night out and your chance with the roulette, the marine therapy centre Thermes Marins with its 7000 m2 in an exceptional location where the privileged clients can combine beauty, marine and relaxation treatments. The manual treatments of the Therme shave made the reputation of this centre, a unique place on the French Rivieria.

Finally, if you prefer having some outdoor activities, you can go to the golf course of the Mont Agel, which is just a few kilometres away, located on a hill ‘ another “rocher” where you can admire the beauty of the Mediterranean sea from Ventimiglia to Saint Jean Cap Ferrat.
